HOW TO DE-ICE YOUR DRIVEWAY

HOW TO DE-ICE YOUR DRIVEWAY

ADD WATER
For smaller areas, shovel off any snow and pour warm water on the exposed ice.

HARNESS THE SUN
Coat the ice with a dark-colored abrasive material, such as coal ash or dark sand. The dark color absorbs heat and provides traction for walking.

SHAKE ON THE SALT
Rock salt lowers the freezing point of water, so when it's added to ice it speeds the melting process.

CLEAN IT UP
Be wary: Salt can damage concrete and plants if you let it collect, so when the ice is gone, sweep it up and toss it.
